Usual Suspects

I promised myself I would not waste my time watching the PBS documentary on the Mormons. Unfortunately, on the second night of the show and during time outs, and commercial breaks from whatever NBA game was on TV, I switched back and forth to the Mormon documentary. What little bit I saw was just a rehash from the usual suspects with the same tired complaints and disgruntled rantings about the Church that we all heard about 12 years ago. Nothing new. If you haven't yet read it, Robert Novak of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote an article about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. He was trying to get Mitt Romney to comment on a Hollywood movie about Mountain Meadows that is coming out this week. Apparently, Novak believes Romney is either to blame or has something relevant to say about an event that occurred over 150 years ago. Novak uses that great American Historian, Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy, and Mission Impossible) as his reliable source on Mormon history. The Novak article was published May 3, and is worth reading, particularly if your blood pressure needs raising.

Yes, we are all cheering for the Jazz. Unfortunately, some of their games come on at 10:30 at night EST. Can they beat the Warriors? Most commentators out here seem to think the Jazz can't hang with the Warriors. But this is coming from the same crowd who anointed T-Mac and Yao as first round champs before the playoffs even started. GO JAZZ.

How about them Jazz!

The Utah Jazz hammered the Yao/McGrady Rockets last night in the greatest playoff victory since John Stockton sunk the Rockets on the same court in game 6 of the 1997 western conference finals. The Jazz should handle the Warriors, and will defeat the Suns in the Western conference finals in two weeks. It could be a great year for the "new" Jazz in 2007. What do you all think?

The Mormons

I do not know if anyone in the family watched the recent documentary shown on PBS titled "The Mormons." I have to admit I am again disappointed in the way that our church was portrayed. They portrayed Joseph Smith as a liar, power hungry rapist who practiced polygamy to fuel his sex drive. I can only hope that someone who is investigating the church will read the Book of Mormon and ask God if it is true instead of giving ear to false rumors and assumptions made in the program.
